Summer Internship in Boston by Tegan Murray, Unit Leader, MMA
Cameron Craivero is part of the Mass Maritime Academy AUP. He is a rising 1 C (senior) and will be the AUP Unit's Executive Officer.
He just completed a 7 week internship at AIRSTA Cape Cod. He was able to gain qualification at an Operations Duty Officer while there. In addition he spent time in an HC-144 Ocean Sentry and the MH-60 Jayhawk. On his last day he was in the HC-144 for air drop exercises off the coast of Maine, dropping to an active duty response boat.
Cameron got to see the airdrop from the water level, to round out his internship. He served as look out while underway, participated in the risk assessment/GAR evaluation to start the patrol, assisted in deploying the target drone, retrieving the drill gear that was dropped (4 drops) and also supported additional training around search pattern training following the airdrop patrol.
Cameron was able to get an up close experience of life at a small boat station and how the Auxiliary plays a key role as a force multiplier for the active duty.
